Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Join us for a comfortable ride on an epic tour around Snæfellsnes Peninsula and explore all the wonders it has to offer.

Snæfellsnes Peninsula is often referred to as “Miniature Iceland”, as it contains samples of some natural wonders Iceland is very famous for all wrapped into one area, including volcanoes, craters, lava fields, a glacier, black sand beaches, and mountains.

Before reaching Borgarnes we will stop at the charming town of Borgarnes for some refreshments. Then we will continue towards the peninsula. Price is per vehicle

✓ Ytri Tunga – is renowned for being one of the best seal-watching spots in Iceland and unlike most beaches in Iceland, it contains yellow sand.

✓ Djúpalónssandur Black Sand Beach – or the Black Lava Pearl Beach as it is often referred to is located west of Snæfellsnes Peninsula, near Snæfellsnesjökull. In the past, it was the most prolific fishing village on the peninsula and home to sixty British boats but today the bay has been abandoned. The black beach is covered with black pebbles which are protected.  Some walk up the beach you will find the remains of a British trawler, that was wrecked east of Dritvík in 1948 as well as four ancient heavy lifting stones, that were used to measure the strength of the fishermen in the village.

✓ Arnarstapi – a former fishing village located at the foot of Mt. Stapafell. The village is renowned for its spectacular basalt cliffs which are home too many birds, including arctic terns. There is also a monument of Bárður Snæfellsáss, which according to an ancient Icelandic Saga was said to be half-human and half-ogre that once lived around Arnarstapi and today is regarded as the area’s guardian spirit.

✓ Snæfellsnes Glacier – the magical Snæfellsjökull Glacier sits on top of Snæfellsnes Volcano. Its cone shape is a classical form of a stratovolcano that has been built over a long time. According to a legend, the glacier is said to be a magical place that contains certain energic points certain people claim they can sense. The glacier was also a subject of inspiration in the novel Journey Into the Center of Earth by Jules Verne.

✓ Ólafsvík – a small village located north of the peninsula with a thriving fishing industry.

✓ Stykkishólmur – is a fishing village located north of Snæfellsnes Peninsula and often referred to as the capital of Snæfellsnes peninsula.

✓ Kirkjufell – is a distinctly shaped mountain on the north shore of Snæfellsnes Peninsula and probably the most photographic mountain in Iceland.

✓ Little Extra Touch – We will add some local touch and different places to visit depending on time, weather, and mood.
